Well, the 🐶 Cutest Pets of Orléans Contest 🐱 which we launched last week, is off to a roaring start. Round 1A of voting has completed and we had over 1,000 votes 🗳️ come in already! Congrats to pets Raven, Maggie, Greta, Chance, Sir Kiwi, Pixel, Mason and Dorey who move on to Round 2.
This week, Round 1B begins, and you can vote below ⬇️ at the bottom of the newsletter for the new batch of contestants. You can view the updated brackets for Dogs and Cats here.

🎤 August 28th - It’s Summer Dance Night at the Orléans Legion! On from 7-11 PM. Great music, good company, cold drinks, and a dance floor waiting for you. Open to everyone and no cover charge.

💗 August 29th - Ditch the dating apps for a night! Head out to Boston Pizza at 7 PM for Sips and Singles Night! Good drinks, better vibes and plenty of great people to meet.

🗿 August 30th - Sculpture & Art Festival at the Humanics Institute, from 10 AM - 5 PM. The festival features local artists and sculptors showcasing their work throughout the grounds. Visitors can explore the sanctuary, browse various artistic media, and participate in a silent auction. Local food vendors will be on-site. Local author Timm Holmes will be doing improvisational storytelling.

🐴 August 30th - The Cumberland Heritage Village Museum is hosting 1930s Fair Day! On from 10 AM - 3 PM. Join for fun, games and music inspired by the history of rural fairs and community gatherings! Explore a 1920s and 30s heritage village, and try your hand at an old-fashioned midway game! There’ll be ice cream making, dancing, farm animals (including mini horses!), and so much more! 💈 August 30th - It’s Customer Appreciation Day at Joe’s Barber Shop at Place d’Orléans. Joe’s has been serving the community for nearly 40 years! Swing by anytime, from 11 AM - 4 PM for a fun-filled day celebrating the community. They’re partnering with some special local businesses: A Foot Above Fitness, Aqua-Tots Swim School and CutiePai Bakehouse!

🎶 August 30th - Indie Pop with Jitensha at Stray Dog Brewing Co, from 3-5 PM. With an understated mix of surfer and soulful, Jitensha creates a chill and positive vibe. Playing a mix of original music and covers from favourite modern (and some classic!) artists, it’s bound to be groovy. No cover.

🎼 September 1st - Audition for a dynamic, friendly community choir! Coro Vivo Ottawa is hosting Auditions from 7 PM onwards. The upcoming season includes a choir retreat, special concert with Susan Aglukark, Christmas concert inspired partly by the Polar Express soundtrack, a master class and more! 💊 🚔 Ottawa Police have found pills in three local Orléans parks and are asking people in the area to be vigilant with young children and pets. (CityNews)
🚴♂️ The federal government and the City of Ottawa have announced that they will be investing $10.9 million to build bike lanes along Orléans Boulevard from the Ottawa River Pathway to Boyer Road and along Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard from the Vineyard/Fortune roundabout to Orléans Boulevard. (CTV News)
