Welcome to the 20th edition of Orléans Connect. 20 issues already - can you believe it? As always, welcome new subscribers!

Recently, I came across a few online posts from Orléans residents talking about how there seems to be a noticeable increase in ✈️ airplane, mostly commercial traffic over Orléans. Anecdotally, I’ve also noticed this. Does anyone know if there has been a change in the way planes are lining up to land at YOW pushing more of them over Orléans? Curious to hear if anyone knows anything.

• 🏖️ July 26th - 27th - Carivibe Reach the Beach Weekend is on! This special event celebrating Caribbean culture promises to be an incredible time. Get your passes now!

• ☪️ MuslimFest is back and it’s bigger and better than ever. Happening on August 9th, from 1 PM - 8 PM at the Cumberland Heritage Museum. Live shows, comedy performances, kids activities, delicious Halal food, art exhibit, Nasheeds, bazaar, free access to the Museum and so much more! The event is free, but attendees must register in advance.

• ☀️ City Councillor for Ward 19, Catherine Kitts is hosting Pop Up Freezie Parties every Tuesday from 2 PM - 4 PM (subject to change due to weather). August dates/locations:

  • August 5th - Ouellette Park, 530 Strasbourg St

  • August 12th - Provence Park, 2095 Provence Ave

• 🎈The Greater Avalon Community Association is hosting Summer Fun Fest on Saturday, August 16th from 1 PM - 4 PM at 318 Aquaview Dr (rain date August 17th)

• 👠Drag Brunch is happening at Broadhead Brewery on Sunday August 17th. Doors open at 12:30 PM, show from 1 PM - 4 PM. 🎟️ Tickets are $25. Ages 19+.

• The Navan Boot Scootin Line Dancers are hosting a Fundraiser: EO Stars Barn Dance on August 22nd at 7 PM and the Navan Fairgrounds, 1279 Colonial Rd, Navan. 🎟️ Tickets are $20.

It’s National Drowning Prevention Week, and it’s so important when enjoying time near and in the water that we all practice water safety. 🏊‍♀️

🎡 The Navan Fair is coming up August 7th - 10th! This Country Fair is EPIC! It has been running since 1946, and we’ve been enjoying it every year since we moved to Orléans 8 years ago! There’s a parade, entertainment, rides, games, and demonstrations. It’s an amazing demonstration of local talent rooted in tradition with their exhibitions of homemade goods, arts and crafts, flowers, crops, fruits and vegetables. You can explore the full schedule online, and buy your tickets ahead of time. 🚌There is a FREE Shuttle Bus Service available with round trips between Orléans and Navan. Stop locations include: outside Mark’s Work Warehouse at Place d’Orléans, Ray Friel Recreation Centre, Millennium Park and the Navan Fair Main Gate. See website for timing and details.

🚓 Are you concerned about community safety? The Ottawa Police Service Board is starting to prepare for next year’s budget, and are inviting Ottawa residents to share their input and suggestions through a Budget Consultation Survey. The survey is open until August 5th. Complete the survey here.

🎨 Calling all local Artisans and Vendors! 🧶

Are you a talented artisan looking to showcase your unique creations or are a direct sales vendor? The Henry Larsen Elementary School Council is looking for vendors for their 3rd Holiday Market and connect with a community of craft enthusiasts! 🌟 

🗓️ November 22nd 2025, from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM

Why You Should Participate:

• Exposure: Gain visibility and reach a wide audience of craft lovers who appreciate handmade treasures.

• Sales Opportunities: Sell your products directly to customers who value quality and craftsmanship.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT 🔦

This week’s Orléans business spotlight is… 🥁 … BROADHEAD BREWERY - located at 1680 Vimont Ct Unit 106.

Broadhead Brewery is obviously a brewery, but also a great spot for food as they have a full-serve taproom with a patio right outside. Broadhead is also a great testament to entrepreneurial ingenuity, and it’s worth reading about their story on their website.

In addition to a delicious selection of brews, you’ll also find sandwiches, wraps, salads, all kinds of smoked meat, and typical pub fare like nachos, tacos, pulled pork, and more. Check out our full review of this terrific restaurant in this week’s Orléans Food Spot.
