In a suburb that's seen no shortage of pizza shops come and go, River Pizza has done something quietly remarkable: it's been feeding Orléans since 1980. That's 45 years of dough rolled daily, sauces made from scratch, and a philosophy that owner Georges AbouAssali has never wavered from, never sacrifice quality, and treat every customer like family. When our readers voted in our poll for the best pizza in Orléans, River Pizza topped (pun intended) the results. So I paid a visit to see if the reputation holds up.
THE LOCATION
River Pizza sits in a no-frills building next to an Esso gas station on Innes Road, its red signage announcing pizza, subs, donairs, and Italian and Canadian food. The exterior is unassuming, there's no patio, no mood lighting, no craft-beer tap list visible through the window. What you do see is a bright "OPEN" neon sign and a bold "GRAB A SLICE! TO GO" sign, and that tells you everything you need to know about the vibe here.
Step inside and you'll find a compact, clean counter-service space. There's a tiny seating area right by the front window, a couple of round bistro tables and stools, but this is really a pickup and delivery operation. Most customers are in and out. Peer past the counter and you'll spot the heart of the operation: a pair of stacked Bakers Pride deck ovens, heavy-duty commercial workhorses that produce the signature char-bottomed crust this place is known for. Boxes are stacked high above the ovens, ready for the constant stream of delivery orders heading out the door.
This is a place built for the food, not the ambience, and the food makes that an entirely fair trade.

THE MENU
The menu is sprawling in the best possible way. On the pizza side, you'll find everything from a plain cheese at $12.75 for a small all the way up to specialty pies like the Meat Lover, Georges Special, and Chicken Deluxe. Crust options go well beyond the standard: thin, whole wheat, gluten-free, and cauliflower crusts are all available, with gluten-free or cauliflower adding $6.00 to a medium. Twin pizza deals, a Family Meal Deal, and a large pepperoni special at $24.99 round out the value options.
Beyond pizza, the menu covers subs, donairs (beef or chicken, with a super donair and donair platter available), pasta (baked lasagna, baked spaghetti, chicken and veal parmigiana), and an extensive "Canadian Food" section featuring club sandwiches, fish and chips, the River Superburger, poutine, and chicken wings. Dipping sauces, homemade creamy garlic, cheddar chipotle, marinara, and ranch, are $2.50 each. Desserts include a Tower of Power Cheesecake, So Good Chocolate Cake, and a Colossal Carrot Cake, all at $8.99 a slice. This is a menu that could satisfy almost anyone at the table.

THE FOOD
We ordered a Canadian pizza, one of the house specialty pies, loaded with pepperoni, mushrooms, and bacon. What arrived was, simply put, one of the best pizzas we've had in Orléans.
The toppings were remarkably generous. The bacon, in particular, is cooked in proper strips rather than the sad pre-cooked crumbles you'll find at chain pizzerias. It comes out slightly crisped at the edges and deeply savoury. The mushrooms were clearly fresh, with that earthy bite that only comes from not overcooking them. The pepperoni browned and crisped beautifully in the deck oven's radiant heat. And the layering of it all was thoughtful: cheese pulling underneath, toppings sitting proud on top, sauce peeking through in just the right spots.

The crust is easily one of the best we've had in Orléans, a perfect balance of chew and crunch, with just a whisper of char on the underside. Dough made fresh daily means you get a base with genuine structure: a rim that puffs up golden and blistered, with a chew that speaks to proper fermentation time. The undercarriage had a subtle char from the stone deck, adding a complexity you simply can't replicate with a conveyor oven. This is the kind of crust that makes you eat the last centimetre instead of leaving it on the plate.
The dipping sauce on the side, the homemade creamy garlic, was a fitting companion: rich and garlicky without being aggressive. It's house-made, and it shows.
THE SERVICE
Service at River Pizza is efficient and friendly in that quietly awesome, neighbourhood-joint way. The orders move quickly, and there's none of the awkward theatre of a full-service restaurant. You place your order, you wait a short while (the deck ovens bake quickly), and you get exactly what you ordered. For a delivery and takeout operation serving a high volume of orders, that consistency is genuinely hard to maintain, and they seem to manage it without fuss.
Online ordering is available through their website at riverpizza.ca, or you can call in at 613-841-4999. Hours run Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday until 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m., and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

THE ORLÉANS CONNECT OVERALL RATING
⭐️ 4.6 stars out of 5
River Pizza is exactly what a great neighbourhood pizza spot should be: consistent, unpretentious, and focused on quality above all else. The Canadian pizza we tried was a masterclass in toppings done right, fresh, generous, and beautifully balanced, sitting atop one of the finest crusts in the east end of Ottawa. It's no surprise our readers named it among the very best in Orléans. After so many years in the community, River Pizza has earned that recognition many times over.
Whether you're feeding the family on a Friday night, grabbing a quick slice, or placing a catering order for your next event, River Pizza is a sure thing.
