Orléans Food Spot Review - Beyond Café

Yes, we all love our treasured 3rd places, such as Starbucks, where you can get your favourite dose of caffeine and sugar while sitting on your laptop in perpetuity to bang out that side project you’ve been meaning to start. However, if you’re looking for a place that is a bit more tranquil, features decor designed to transport your mood to a different place, and where you can engage in some amazing conversation, then Beyond Café may be the right place for you.

THE SPACE

Beyond Café's entire motif is all about a unique set of decor designed to transform you to transport you to a living room set straight out of the 1950s. Everything from lamps, chairs, sofas, and furniture is themed in a way to create the illusion of a time gone by. Personally, I love it, and I wish more independently owned cafés like this one would boldly transform their spaces to provide unique experiences for patrons looking for a reason to support local businesses like this one.

And as you can see, it’s not just a few pieces of furniture that set the mood; it’s an entire look, from elaborately themed mirrors to beautiful old-school wallpaper and charming lamps.

And if you prefer to sit outside, there’s a nicely fitted small patio right outside as well.

THE MENU

The menu is highly varied, and offers a rather large selection of coffees, teas, beverage, breakfast plates, salads, sandwiches, sous, crepes, baked goods, and more. Overall, a very impressive selection for a café of this size.

WHAT WE HAD

• Banana Chocolate Milkshake

• Chocolate Brownie

• Iced Biscoff Latte with Whipped Cream

• Peach Iced Tea

While we didn’t get a chance to indulge in the many food item options (we had just had lunch elsewhere), if the quality of the drinks and baked goods we DID have is any indication, Beyond Cafe’s food and beverage offerings are simply excellent. Here’s our food and drink ratings:

🥤 Chocolate Banana milkshake - 9.0 / 10 - though I don’t understand the need for a straw so insanely thick and long 🤣

☕️ Iced Biscoff Latte with Whipped Cream- 9 / 10

🍰 Chocolate brownie - 9 / 10 - delicious and just the right density with rich chocolate.

🥤 Peach Iced Tea - 9.5 / 10

Of note, they don’t charge extra for non-dairy milk which is nice considering that most coffee shops do.

One thing to note …. in service of creating a particular atmosphere, Beyond Café has a strict no laptops policy on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and on the weekdays laptops are allowed for only 1.5 hours.
