Welp… between someone shooting a crossbow at a home and coyotes attacking a teenager, it certainly has been an eventful week in Orléans. 👀
🚨 Attention PET OWNERS of Orléans! 🐈 🦮 - Orléans Connect is partnering with some local pet-service providers on a special Orléans Connect contest where we’ll be encouraging all of YOU and the rest of the Orléans community to vote on which pets will be crowned the “CUTEST PETS IN ORLÉANS”, so….👇
If you haven’t previously submitted your pet to our ongoing Pets of Orléans section in the newsletter (lower down in the newsletter), now is the time to send in some photos of your pet to be included in the coming contest.
If you have ALREADY submitted your pet, but DON’T want your pet to participate in the contest, please send us an email here: [email protected] with the subject line “No Pets” and the name of your pet(s).
If you or somebody you know wants to sponsor this contest with a pet-related service or merchandise, please have them email us.
We are still in the process of reaching out to sponsors to grow the prize pool, but we expect the contest to launch sometime in the next month.

🧠 June 12th - It’s Musical Bingo - 80s and 90s themed, from 8-10 PM at Taproom260. No pens, no trivia questions, just your favourite songs, cold drinks and good vibes! Grab your friends, sing along and win some awesome prizes!

💗 June 12th -13th - The Common Thread Quilt Guild is hosting its biennial Quilt Show. Entrance is $12. Free parking. Friday: 10 AM-7 PM, and Saturday: 10 AM-5 PM. There will be a cash-only cafe for light meals and refreshments to keep you fueled as you enjoy the many quilts, vendor booths, members’ market and draws.

🏃🏻♀️ June 13th - Orléans Women’s Run Club - meet out front of the NCC River House. 5K run along the waterfront - starts at 8:15 AM. All paces welcome. Post run, enjoy a coffee at the café, and bring your swimsuit for a dip!

📕 Ottawa’s former Poet Laureate Jamaal Amir Akbari is launching his debut poetry collection at this special event - CHAMBERS: Book Launch and Concert. This event includes a live performance blending poetry, music and movement at Shenkman Arts Centre on June 21st. Tickets from $22 - VIP includes a signed book and prints! Fritomania is one of those singular food spots in Orléans that is both a go-to-spot for anyone that wants to indulge in some amazing fried offerings such as fries (fried in peanut oil), poutine, burgers, sausages and more, AND a visual staple of the commercial strip that is St. Joseph’s Blvd. Make sure to visit this amazing shack of fried delights at least a few times this summer and enjoy outdoor seating amidst other patrons chowing down on their pogos, onion rings, mozzarrela sticks and more! Just don’t be surprised if there’s a lineup, this place is popular.

Students of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School have once again reached their ambitious goal of raising over $35,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society through the Relay for Life with a total fundraising of $38,562.32! Great work students of SWL!
