Edition no.26

Hello ORLÉANS!
Welcome to the 26th edition of Orléans Connect.
🎵 Fall is here, hear the yell
Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we are gonna be friends
I can tell that we are gonna be friends 🎵
As we enter September with both fall and 🚌 school now heavy on many of our minds, I’m reminded of the above lyrics from the terrific White Stripes song called “We’re Going To Be Friends”.
And as many of us usher our children to face another school year with all the excitement, anxiety, and memories of our own childhoods flooding back, we remind ourselves that Orléans, Ottawa and Canada remain one of the best places in the world to journey our way with our families towards the end of another year.

Kidical Mass is an international movement that celebrates the joy of biking with a focus on children and families. This event is designed to encourage active transportation and bring neighbours together for a joyful morning on two wheels! Streets should be safe for kids to travel to places like schools, parks and community centres. This event also serves to highlight the broader need for a city that is resilient, socially connected and accessible via active transportation - including to children.
Event kicks off with children’s art and bike decorating activities at 9:30 AM, followed by a scenic 3 KM loop through the neighbourhood of Convent Glen North, departing at 10 AM from Father Richard Water Park, behind des Voyageurs School.

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT 🔦
This week’s Orléans business spotlight is… 🥁 … NATURA WILDLIFE SERVICES - servicing the greater Ottawa area including Orléans.
Natura Wildlife Services is an effective and humane service for wildlife intrusion problems. From racoons 🦝 to mice 🐭, bats 🦇, squirrels 🐿️, birds and snakes, Natura is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of both humans and animals.
We used this company some years back to deal with a mice-intrusion problem into our home and Natura was able to seal up our house tight, and we haven’t seen any mice since. So if you’re having an animal intrusion problem at your home or business, give them a call.
As always, if you wind up booking them, make sure to tell them that Orléans Connect sent you.

On May 15, 1956, a Royal Canadian Air Force Sabre jet crashed into the Villa St-Louis convent on the Ottawa River shoreline in Orléans, killing 15 people including the two pilots. Today you can see a memorial dedicated to the memory of the fifteen victims, erected in 2009 behind the Residence Saint-Louis long term care facility which was built on the same site as the old Villa St-Louis. You can read more about the incident here.

Many thanks to Kyla D. for sending in a photo of her dog named Greta, another awesome addition to our growing collection of Orléans pups!
